Credit Report Restoration
Many people do not know this, but Congressional Laws have given people with bad credit the opportunity to turn back the clock and restore their credit. Many people do not qualify for home mortgages, auto loans, apartment rentals, and even employment because of less than perfect credit. The credit repair laws can help, but most people do not know these laws exist, or have very little knowledge on the subject
90% of americans have errors, outdated, or fraudulent accounts on the credit profile.
If you are reading your credit report and you see an error what should you do? Who do you call? There are mistakes that are accidental and many are intentional on your credit reports all the time. How can that be? However there is something that you can do about it. Wrong numbers on your credit report may bring down your score and you should make sure that you get this fixed right away by contacting your credit bureau.
You first have to get a copy of your credit report and circle any one item only (dispute one at a time) that you think is wrong. The next thing that you need to do is write one letter at a time per item to the credit bureau. Otherwise your account will be flagged for multiple disputes. The address for the bureau should be listed on the credit report. You need to be sure that you include all the copies of paperwork that is going to pertain to the dispute that you are reporting and that all of the documents that you are sending are copies and not the originals. You need to keep those for yourself. You should send this all by certified mail and get a receipt to be sure that it was sent and it was received.
It is up to the reporting bureau to investigate your disputed claim and verify that there is a problem with the credit report information. If the creditor/collector cannot prove that the information is correct, the entry must be removed with no questions asked. It is probably that it is an error on their part and they will tell the reporting agency about it and it will be removed from your permanent record. The collection items are harder to remove but most can be done. Once the investigation is finished, and the changes are made, the bureau will give you a copy of your credit report free so that you have proof of the changes that have been made.
There are errors that will occur in all stages of life and there is no surprise to learn that credit reports are not any different. Keep your temper to a low and deal with the mistakes. Your credit bureau should take care of this. It is your responsibility to take care of your credit and to review all the paperwork that you receive all of the time. Unlike collection accounts and letters, this process takes more time and it is usually done with one item per 30 - 45 days to investigate by the bureau. Think of where you would be in 365 days when you take action now.
Perseverence is what it takes to get this done. How high would you like your score to go? !
